ABSTRACT: Telerobotic systems enable operators to interact with remote manipulators. Such systems have often been used in hazardous environments. This paper presents a gesture-based telerobotic system using Kinect. Kinect is an essential component of the Natural User Interface (NUI) capable of translating human body motion into telemanipulation commands. In comparison to traditional mouse-based control, the gesture-based system led to faster completion of the remote object moving task and was also easier to learn. Thus, it is possible to conclude that the gesture-based NUI proved a more intuitive and efficient usage than the traditional user interfaces.
