The event took place prior to the launch of the EU latest research & development program "IST - Information Society Technologies" (with a budget exceeding € 4 billion) and shortly after the official release of the "e-Europe 2005" initiative. It was a challenge as far as the development of broadband infrastructure, applications and services in Europe is concerned.
Bucharest hosted between October 9 and 11, 2002 the conference, "Information Society Technologies for Broadband Europe".
