Robust Digital Watermarking Method Based on Bit-Planes’ Ranges

Akram M. Zeki, Azizah A. Manaf
Abstract

Least Significant Bit (LSB) is simple and fast calculated method for hiding watermarking, but it cannot protect itself from signal processing variations due to attacks. A watermark is only useful if it is resistant to typical image processing operations as well as to malicious attacks. In this study, watermarking technique based on bit-planes has been developed in order to improve the robustness of direct embedding by LSB technique. The ranges of each bit-plane have been found that in each range the bit changes between 0 and 1. In this study, the middle of the range has been choosing to be the location of the watermarked pixel so any change on the pixel by attacks will minimally affect the selected bit and this is will improve the robustness of the extracted image.
