The main objective of this paper is to establish a planning structure for the design, purchase / manufacture and modular implementation of a general-purpose Computer Integrated Manufac turing (CIM) system. The resulting CIM system will be able not only to cover effectively specific needs of a company, but also to serve educational purposes, and as a vehicle for research.
