A fuzzy Expert System for solving large complex environmentaI problems is presented. The Expert System is composed of a knowledge base, an inference engine, a models' library, a fuzzy knowledge-hased controller, a blackboard, all these modules being interconnected and supervised via a monitor. Tite Expert System has been used in solving several large complex environmental problems, as for instance simulation and control problems of the aquatic ecosystem of the Danube Delta, the forest ecosystem of the Carpathians and the air -quality control in the City of Bucharest. All these experiments have proved that the Expert System is useful for solving large complex environmental problems.
