This paper presents a general overview of the research approaches in the topics of modelling, dynamic persistence of objects and active images for manufacturing processes as carried out at the University of Costa Rica and the New University of Lisbon. This paper was prepared within the context of the ECLA (European Communities and Latin America) co-opcration programme on the CIMIS.net project. Current approaches of both universities are presented in order to define a reciprocal cooperation towards the definition of some general concepts and the design of some tools in the mentioned topics.
