In this paper an expert (knowledge-based) decision support system (KBDSS) architecture is presented which is then specialized to the generalized network (GN) domain. The resulting KBDSS developed by the authors and called GENETEXP is actually useful for decision making in real problems that may be put in the GN form and need additional higher level expertise. Some results in the optimized transportation planning area are included to illustrate the functioning and usefulness of the KBDSS
